Glare assessment

Detailed investigation of glare effects:
DGS Berlin prepares glare reports for photovoltaic systems that analyse the glare effect for your specific project.

Direct reflections of the sun on glass surfaces lead to very high luminance levels. Any adverse effects on residents or traffic situations should be ruled out at the planning stage.

Consequently, independent opinions are increasingly required for photovoltaic systems in the vicinity of traffic routes and other locations (e.g. motorways, railway lines, airports and residential areas) where there may be an undesirable glare effect from the generator surface.

Process of an expert opinion:
  • Determination of the position of the sun for the whole year in minute resolution
  • Based on the beam optics, the experts determine the direction and height of the reflected radiation depending on the angle of inclination of the generator
  • Based on the location of an object in relation to the photovoltaic system, i.e. the direction of the compass and the difference in height, a glare assessment can be used to analyse whether and during which periods a glare effect occurs

To evaluate the glare effect, the Federal/State Working Group for Immission Control (LAI) provides „Notes on the measurement, assessment and reduction of light emissions“. As part of the analysis, we evaluate the results in accordance with this LAI guideline. If there is a need for action based on this analysis, suitable measures may be proposed.

Our expertise:

DGS Berlin Brandenburg has many years of experience in the preparation of glare reports and our experts have already published several specialist articles on this topic.

We will prepare an offer for you.

Please send the following documents with your enquiry:

  • Module layout plan of the planned solar park (incl. azimuth angle, module tilt angle)
  • The letter from the relevant authority requesting a corresponding glare protection report. If this is not available, please specify the immission locations for the study (e.g. residential buildings, road traffic, railway traffic)
  • The address of the invoice recipient to whom the certificate is to be issued
  • The desired deadline or period so that we can take this into account when preparing the offer

Please send your initial enquiry by e-mail only. The enquiry will be assigned to an employee who will contact you. We will send you a possible processing time in the offer. On request, we can consider express processing for a surcharge.
