Project description
Project content and result
The installation of solar thermal systems and photovoltaic solar generators on sloping roof surfaces of existing buildings is a key option for increasing the use of renewable energy sources as desired by energy policy. However, the installed systems are often not sufficiently anchored in the substrate or moisture penetrates the roof structure after installation.
The causes of damage lie on the one hand in missing or inadequate static calculations of the systems and on the other hand in ignorance of the functioning of pitched roof constructions, whose tightness depends not only on the intact covering material, but also on the second drainage level, e.g. the rainproof underlay.
In addition, mistakes are made during PV module installation, cable laying and roof penetration. The research project analysed typical defects and errors and developed recommendations that lead to damage-free installation and thus contribute to the economically effective use of solar installations.
The results are presented in a comprehensive project report.
